Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
My current athlete agent license expires June 30, 2026. Can I renew before the new system launches?
No. There is no interim renewal process available before July 1, 2026. Because SB 389 establishes new and different registration standards, all agents must re-register through the new online system rather than renewing under the existing process.
When will the new Online Athlete Agent Registration System be available?
The new system is set to launch on July 1, 2026. Agents whose licenses expire on June 30 will be able to complete their registration starting July 1, 2026. All athlete agents who were previously registered in the state of Louisiana (prior to passage of SB 389) must be re-registered through the new online portal by August 1, 2026.
Will I receive a notification or reminder about re-registering under the new system?
You should not wait for a notification. All agents are expected to re-register through the new online system beginning July 1, 2026 regardless of whether they receive individual outreach.
Who is required to register as an athlete agent under SB 389?
Any individual who represents, advises, recruits, or solicits athletes for compensation in connection with professional sports opportunities or NIL/endorsement deals must register.
Is there a required training I must complete as part of the new registration?
Yes. A virtual training is required and the link will be included within the application itself. You can complete the training and return to your application where you left off. The length of the training will be displayed when you open the training link.
Is there a cost associated with the required background check and training?
The cost of the training is incorporated in the cost of the application.
