Medicaid Romeo and Juliet from Denham Springs arrested by Louisiana Bureau of Investigation after hiding their marriage to defraud the taxpayers of more than $133,000
Agents with Attorney General Liz Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrested a couple from Denham Springs for Government Benefits Fraud.
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) received a criminal referral from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) regarding allegations that Keith and Sheryl Duncan, of Columbia Avenue in Denham Springs, both Medicaid recipients, had intentionally underreported their income for purposes to receive Medicaid benefits.
During this investigation, LBI agents learned that in the period between November 1, 2021, and October 31, 2024, Keith and Sheryl Duncan presented false information by failing to accurately report their marital status and household income.
As a result, the Duncans defrauded the Medicaid program of more than $133,000.
On Wednesday, July 30th, agents arrested Keith and Sheryl Duncan pursuant to arrest warrants issued by the 19th Judicial District Court on charges of Government Benefits Fraud.
The couple was booked without incident at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Sheryl Duncan is facing 1 count of Government Benefits Fraud. Her bond has been set at $5,000.
Keith Duncan is facing 3 counts of Government Benefits Fraud. His bond has been set at $12,000.
"Last week we arrested the 'Medicaid Millionaire' from Slidell, today we've arrested 'Romeo and Juliet' from Denham Springs, who kept their marriage a secret to defraud the hardworking taxpayers of Louisiana for over $130,000. We're not stopping - these funds are for those in need. If you cheat the system, you will be arrested and prosecuted," said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
The investigation is ongoing.
