Collections
Collections Section represents 25 of Louisiana’s public colleges, universities, technical and community colleges in the collection of educational related expenses, such as parking tickets, bookstore fees, outstanding semester fees, meal/ housing plans, etc. Over 78,000 educational accounts valued in excess of $137 million are currently placed for collection. Additionally, the Collections Section represents 30 state agencies, including the Louisiana Department of Revenue, in the pursuant of debts owed the State of Louisiana for various reasons.
This section is totally self-generated receiving no state general fund dollars for its operation. For every $1 spent, our section returns over $12 to the state in monies recovered. The Collections Section has increased total collections by an average of 28.5% year over year for 5 years in a row. The Collections Section has returned over $86 million dollars to the state since Attorney General Jeff Landry took office in January 2016.
